2024 Synod Assembly
BREATHE (some assembly required)
On Friday, May 12 and Saturday, May 13 your Northeastern Ohio Synod convened in Akron for Breathe (Some Assembly Required) at the John S. Knight Center. The two-day event was filled with “Empower Time” that to many were recognizable business sessions—adoption of credentials report, rules of procedure, the agenda, presentation and adoption of the 2024-2025 budget, nominations, and presentation and results of various Synod Council elections. Click [HERE] for a complete list of voting results. Further, your Northeastern Ohio Synod passed an “Anti-Racism” resolution to declare that we are a people of inclusion, hope, and love to all people. Further, the assembly recommended that Synod Council undertake study of a “Care of Creation” resolution to more faithfully and intentionally investigate how we can positively impact our Earth here in the Northeastern Ohio Synod and beyond. And what made Breathe (Some Assembly Required) truly unique and enriching for our synod participants were the interludes between the “Empower” sections. Stories, call stories, worship, prayer, reflection, and our enriching liturgy filled the “Storytelling” time for renewal and remembrance of our purpose here in the Northeastern Ohio Synod. Our ELCA representative, NEOS’s own The Rev. Kimberly Vaughn, spoke eloquently about “Who am I” using the Exodus text as a springboard to share the powerful initiatives we are supporting in the wider church with our work here in the Northeastern Ohio Synod. In short, Breathe (Some Assembly Required) was a meaningful way for our synod to connect and share with our brothers and sisters in Christ what God is doing (and will be doing) in our midst.
